Adam Greenberg

What a thrill it has to be for a rookie to play his first major league game on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. For one Cubs rookie this dream turned into a tragedy real quick.

Pinch hitting in the 9th inning, rookie Adam Greenberg was experiencing the moment he dreamed of forever. However, the very first pitch struck Greenberg on the back of the head, and he has not seen a major league pitch since.

Struggling with post concussion symptoms, Greenberg became just the second player in MLB history to be hit by the first pitch in his only plate appearance. Greenberg has been determined to get back in the big leagues ever since.

On Oct. 2, the inspiring story of perseverance and dedication for Greenberg will come true. The Marlins signed him to a one day contract worth $3,000. Greenberg will donate the money back to the Marlins organization, which ironically was the team he was facing when he got hit in the head.

Many people think that this is ruining the integrity of the game, and that it is not fair that he can get signed for one day just for one at bat. Greenberg says that this is not a stunt, since he earned his way into the big leagues in 2005. I think that this is a class act by the Marlins, and I am truely happy for Greenberg. As we know, concussions affect many athletes, and I am glad to see someone fight it and bouce back.

I wish Greenberg the best of luck next Tuesday.

NHL Lockout
The longer the lockout goes on for, the more and more Professional hockey players playing in the NHL  will sign with teams in Sweden, Russia and other European hockey leagues.
Alexander Ovechkin has been reported to have signed with his former Russian KHL team, the Dynamo Moscow. Don't be surprised if you see other players jumping ship and getting out of dodge while they can.
Another star of the NHL has also left and signed overseas's in Russia. Evgeny Malkin has signed with the Russian hockey organization Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Following Malkin to Metallurg are Ottawa Senators Defense man Sergei Gpnchar and Toronto Maple Leafs Nikolai Kulemin.
If the lock out ends soon, some of the players that sign with European teams might be stuck over there for the year. One of the big problems that European basketball teams faced was signing NBA players to contracts, only to see them gone the next month due to the lockout ending. Some players had to sign a clause that said they had to play the entire year with that team.

Sportscenter bias?

Last summer, there was so much to talk about in the world of sports. So much so, that Prestige World Wide Sports Inc. could have filled a three hour time slot without any breaks.

However, there was only two words that you would ever hear on sportscenter: NBA lockout. This got me so frustrated because I did not want to hear a play by play analysis of the collective bargaining agreement. Rather, I wanted to hear about things that happened in the previous day like MLB games, college football, etc. Oh no, the people who layout the show for sportscenter refused to throw in even a score update into that first half hour of the show.

The worse part was, the NBA season was still THREE months away when it was getting 24/7 media attention. Fast forward to the summer of 2012. The NHL is currently in a lockout. My estimated amount of time hearing sports center mention the NHL lockout....give or take 45 seconds. Why? I do not understand why basketball gets THAT much more coverage on ESPN. Those who are not avid hockey followers like myself, probabaly did not even no the league was locked out until a few days after Betman closed the doors.

Though the NHL has made strides in gaining national popularity, I still feel there is an unfair bias towards the sport. I just hope this current lockout does not kill the passionate fan base that does exist. My guess is, it will not, and you guys at ESPN, when I have your job, just turn on the NBA network if you want a breath by breath breakdown of Lebron James' rebound.
Where did the NFL find these replacement refs

So I go to Yahoo to look for a story to read and I see this:
"The NFL is using Officials who weren't good enough for the Lingerie League"
Well I guess I know why some of the refs are completely blowing the games. They weren't good enough for a sub par league where half the crowd doesn't even go for the game (Big surprise there).Lets Hope that none of these lingerie refs weren't officiating the Seattle vs Green Bay Game

Lets get the real refs back!!!

NFC West

Remember when the NFC West was the laughing stock of the NFL? Remember when the 7-9 Seahawks won the division and likewise became the first ever team to make the post-season with a losing record?

It looks like those days are behind us. In fact, one could say the NFC West is now one of if not the STRONGEST division in the NFL. The Seahawks, just two years removed from the 7-9 season that earned them a playoff birth, are currently ahead of the dominant Green Bay Packers 7-0. Even more imprresive is the eight sacks they have recorded just in the first half alone. Seattle is always a tough opponent at home with their "12th man" factor, and now with rookie quarterback Russell Wilson leading the helm, Seattle seems to be poised and on the rise.

Along with Seattle, is the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers. After a very solid 14-2 season a year ago, the Niners are showing once again that they are Super Bowl contenders. With their 80's style of play, the Niners are pounding the ball and using a solid defense to help themselves win low scoring ball games. Their rivals in the dessert, Arizona has possibly been the biggest shocker in the NFL so far. With a defense that has shut down high powered offenses such as New England and Philadelphia, Arizona is showing that they are not to be overlooked in the NFC.

I think I have figured out the key to success that the NFC West has derived.....strong defense and do not turn the ball over. If you look at these teams, none of the quarterbacks jump out at you, in fact none of the offensive players
